Highlights of Thessaloniki Workshop

RE-ROUTE Training Workshop on “Intelligent Transport System” was held on 13-14 July 2023 at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), Thessaloniki, Greece.

Day 1 (13 July 2023)

Here are some of the highlights of Day 1 of the workshop.

• Dr. Evangelos Mitsakis (CERTH-HIT) welcomed all participants to the workshop and presented a session on the current status and future prospects of ITS & C-ITS.
• Dr. Stelios Krinidis from IHU & Dr. Dimosthenis Ioannidis from ITI-CERTH hosted a session on Edge Computing.
• Dr. Iraklis Stamos from Joint Research Centre (JRC) – European Commission presented on “Measuring the resilience of multimodal transport networks with KPIs”
• Dr. Nima Afraz from UCD and Roberto Sabatino from HEANet conducted a session on “Cloud-based services for research”.

In addition, PhDs and Postdocs from Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, and University of Oulu got the opportunity to present their elevator pitches.

Day 2 (14 July 2023)

Here are some of the highlights of Day 2 of the workshop.

• In the opening session on Day 2 of the workshop, Dr. Fatemeh Golpayegani and Dr. Eric Gyamfi (UCD) presented a session on “Edge-based Traffic Simulator”.
• A session on “Microscopic Traffic Simulation” was arranged by Dr. Evangelos Mintsis & Mr. Dimitris Tzanis (CERTH).
• Ms. Areti Kotsi and Dr. Vasileios Psonis presented on C-ITS enabled dynamic traffic management.
• Mr. Chrysostomos Mylonas & Ms. Maria Stavara (CERTH-HIT) presented on using ITS data from National Access Points.
• Dr. Nima Afraz delivered a talk on “Peer Review and Open Science”
• Mr. Chrysostomos Mylonas & Dr. Evangelos Mitsakis led a session on “Cross-modal substitutability & Network vulnerability modeling”
• To conclude Day 2, Mr. Dimitris Tzanis & Mr. Chrysostomos Mylonas (CERTH-HIT) briefly introduced the participants to nuMIDAS toolkit: novel mobility services.

Dr. Evangelos Mitsakis and his team including Dr. Vasileios Psonis, Mr. Dimitris Tzanis, and Dr. Evangelos Mintsis hosted a visit to the CERTH-HIT living lab facilities.

Social Events

CERTH team organized lunch on both days of the workshop where participants got a chance to communicate on different aspects of research in an informal way.

CERTH team also organized a social dinner on 13 July 2023 at Kitchen Bar Restaurant near Port of Thessaloniki.
